Tottenham Hotspur head coach Ange Postecoglou insists midfielder James Maddison remains a powerful figure in the dressing room. And has urged the sports media not to tarnish the story just because of his half-time substitution last week.
Spurs had just beaten West Ham 4-1 in the league after the international break. With Postecoglou taking off Madder at half-time with the score 1-1 and replacing him with Pape Matar Sarr. The midfield was more solid and he scored three goals in the second half. UFABET
The English media also tried to present news that English footballers were in decline. Especially with the emergence of a 17-year-old rising star, Mikey Moore, this season.
But Postecoglou has now reiterated that Maddison is important to his plans. Both in terms of his performances on the pitch and his seniority in the dressing room.
He said at the pre-Crystal Palace press conference (Oct 27).
“Madison was part of the team that won last week.”
“Actually, I think he played well in the first half. And I repeat, it was a tactical change. I understand the players’ perspective of wanting to play all the time.”
“I think we did well in the Europa League (1-0 win over Alkmaar). The leadership throughout the game was good. When we had the ball we gave the team an advantage, or if we needed to create chances. We needed to be disciplined in defence, we did it.”
“In the second half, Mikey was given the chance to play in a role that he felt good about. And the Madders gave the kid the ball to create an attacking game.”
“That shows his leadership because at that moment it was a lot of work. Even though Didison was possessive of the ball and made plays. He was setting up Mikey to do something special.”
“James is our vice-captain and one of our leaders,”
